Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
After the announcement of Panchayat elections in West Bengal, the state Congress President and party leader in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, has been sitting on a protest since Tuesday against the ongoing violence.
Adhir Ranjan is staging the protest in front of the BDO office in Badhara, Murshidabad. The protest, which began at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, is still ongoing as of Wednesday morning.
Several other Congress leaders and workers are also present at the protest. Chowdhury has alleged that the local BDO, in collaboration with the ruling TMC, is engaging in biased behavior. He has also written a letter to the Speaker of Lok Sabha, Om Birla, regarding this matter.
On Wednesday, Chowdhury stated that the Speaker has assured him of taking appropriate action in this case. If necessary, a response may be sought from the state government on this matter.
Chowdhury mentioned that on Wednesday, a petition will be filed on behalf of Congress in the Calcutta High Court. He further alleged that since he started the protest, the administration has continuously harassed him. He has not been allowed to use a fan even in this intense heat. Moreover, despite Congress workers arranging for a generator with their own money, they have been prevented from using it by invoking Section 144.
It is worth noting that two Congress leaders in Murshidabad were shot dead, and several other candidates who filed nominations have been continuously attacked.
